Data Deletion Instructions
Effective date: 1 May 2026 · DPDP Act 2023, §13 (Right of Erasure) · Meta Platform requirement.
Quick summary
- Sign in at BITE Digital
- Go to Privacy → Right of erasure → Request erasure
- State a reason (optional) and submit
- The Trustee reviews and either approves (data deleted immediately) or rejects with a reason (visible to you)
If you are unable to sign in (e.g. account already deactivated), email grievance@bitevns.ac.in with the subject line "Data Deletion Request", your phone number as registered with BITE Digital, and any reason you wish to share. We will action the request within 30 days.
What gets deleted
On approval, the following is permanently deleted:
- Your user account row (name, phone, email, profile photo, push token, consent record)
- All active and revoked authentication sessions
- Pending and consumed OTP requests
- Pending notifications
The following has its content scrubbed while the row remains for compliance integrity:
- Comments you posted — content replaced with a deletion marker; row preserved so threads remain coherent
The following is anonymised — your identity is severed, but the operational/audit row remains:
- Tasks you completed (the institution needs to know that the task was done; the row is reattributed to a tombstone account)
- Reschedule requests, escalations, and audit log entries you triggered
After deletion, BITE Digital cannot identify you in any record. The operational and audit history of your past actions remains in compliance with the institutional retention policy and DPDP Act §17 (which permits retention for legitimate institutional interests).
Connected Facebook / Instagram / Google data
If you connected a Facebook Page, Instagram Business account, Google Business Profile, or LinkedIn Page to BITE Digital, deleting your BITE Digital account also:
- Zeroes the encrypted access and refresh tokens for any platform you connected, immediately stopping further data ingestion
- Soft-deletes the platform connection row so the Trustee can re-create a fresh connection later if needed
Public posts and reviews already ingested before deletion are derived from the public APIs and remain in our institutional analytics. To remove specific reviews or comments, you must remove them at the source platform (Google, Facebook, Instagram, etc.).
Third-party data deletion
Data we transmitted to third parties for service delivery is deleted as follows:
- Anthropic (sentiment classification) — input texts are not stored or used for training per our enterprise terms; nothing to delete on their side
- MSG91 / DoubleTick (OTP and WhatsApp delivery) — they retain delivery logs (phone number + timestamp + status) for 90 days per their compliance policies; we cannot accelerate their schedule
- Sentry (error monitoring) — we maintain a 30-day retention; older errors are auto-pruned
Timeline
- In-app request approved by Trustee — deletion executes immediately (synchronous; usually under 5 seconds)
- Email request — actioned within 30 calendar days
- Backups containing your data — overwritten on a 30-day rolling cycle
